A business process is a sequence of interrelated actions aimed at creating a product or service for consumers. Business processes define how the company works, creates value, interacts with the outside world and within itself.
"Historically established" business processes are rarely analized, accumulate errors of the past years, can't keep up with the company's growth and change spontaneously. This results in loss of clients and decrease of profit.
